Managing a Crisis
Are you experiencing a crisis right now?
- Are you contemplating suicide? homicide?
- Are you emotionally "at the end or your rope?"
- You don't know what to do?
Then you need to ask for help.
Take at least one of these steps immediately:
- Call your local crisis line. Most cities have a 24 hour crisis line. The phone number is usually listed in the telephone book on the inside front cover. If you don't have a phone book, call the operator and ask to be connected to the crisis line. Or click to find a crisis centre in
- Call 911 (Available in most areas to reach police or ambulance.)
- Call a trusted friend or relative... ask them to talk with you or come over right away.
Disclaimer
Your counsellor or the counselling agency he/she works for cannot be held responsible for helping you manage a crisis via secure e-mail. Because of the delays associated with the use of e-mail, online counselling is not suitable to resolve an immediate crisis. If you experience an emotional crisis (intense feelings of distress), emergency or life threatening situation, or any other crisis during the course of your treatment, merely sending a secure e-mail message to your counsellor is not appropriate.
Unless your counsellor has informed you of specific crisis services he/she can offer, we suggest you take the actions described above.
